“Six patterns of homeopathy use in integrative oncology: A qualitative study (TOUCAN)”

A settembre 2024, nell’ambito della ricerca scientifica in omeopatia, è stato pubblicato un nuovo studio intitolato Six patterns of homeopathy use in integrative oncology: A qualitative study (TOUCAN) .

La ricerca – pubblicata sulla rivista internazionale peer reviewed “Advances in Integrative Medicine”  –  è stata realizzata in Francia e ha consentito di identificare almeno sei ragioni pratiche per cui i pazienti con cancro al seno si rivolgono all’omeopatia nell’ambito dell’oncologia integrativa (IO).

Queste ragioni dipendono dalla rappresentazione della cura nel suo complesso, insieme alla disponibilità, all’accessibilità, all’efficacia, ai benefici e allo sforzo richiesto da questa e da altre terapie – sia convenzionali che di supporto – utilizzate dal paziente.

Nello specifico i ricercatori hanno posto in evidenza i diversi modi in cui i pazienti utilizzano l’omeopatia in relazione alle terapie convenzionali e di supporto in oncologia integrativa:

  1. come terapia aggiuntiva alle cure convenzionali e di supporto,
  2. come terapia da integrare con altre terapie di supporto,
  3. in sostituzione della terapia di supporto,
  4. in sostituzione dei farmaci di supporto,
  5. come opzione non adatta a sostituire tutte le terapie di supporto,
  6. come unica opzione di supporto disponibile in alcune situazioni.

Da questa analisi deriva in modo chiaro il messaggio che i medici dovrebbero valutare più frequentemente i diversi usi dell’omeopatia nelle cure di supporto.

L’omeopatia, quindi, il trattamento convenzionale del cancro, gli operatori sanitari e le terapie di supporto formano un insieme coeso.

La ricerca è il risultato della collaborazione scientifica di ricercatori provenienti dai seguenti Centri :

  • Patient-Reported Outcomes Unit (PROQOL), INSERM UMR 1123, Paris Cité University, France;
  • Health Economics Clinical Trial Unit (URC-ECO), Hotel-Dieu Hospital, AP-HP, Paris, France;
  • EMEDE Consulting & Axial, Boulogne-Billancourt, France;
  • Department of Oncology Radiotherapy, Troyes hospital, Troyes, France;
  • Andrée Dutreix Institute, Dunkerque, France.

Nelle conclusioni del lavoro, i ricercatori scrivono:

“Pochi studi hanno esplorato la combinazione di terapie di supporto o CAM, il che può sollevare dubbi sul loro ruolo nell’oncologia integrativa (integrative oncology – IO). Il nostro studio, che tratta l’omeopatia come un trattamento di supporto e complementare, rivela che, nella pratica riportata, l’omeopatia è stata utilizzata accanto alle cure convenzionali e di supporto, ha integrato altre terapie di supporto, ha sostituito i farmaci di supporto e, in alcuni casi, è stata l’unica opzione disponibile. Tuttavia, non poteva sostituire tutte le altre terapie di supporto. Le aspettative dei pazienti nei confronti dell’omeopatia, che si allineano a quelle di altre forme di CAM, ne influenzano l’utilizzo. Queste aspettative sono modellate dalla rappresentazione complessiva della cura, così come dalla disponibilità, dall’accessibilità, dall’efficacia, dai benefici e dall’impegno richiesto da altri trattamenti, sia convenzionali che di supporto, che il paziente utilizza. I clinici e i ricercatori dovrebbero considerare spesso la probabilità che i pazienti utilizzino l’omeopatia nell’oncologia integrativa (IO), per comprenderne appieno i significati e le motivazioni sottostanti. Dato l’uso diffuso dell’omeopatia in vari modi e la mancanza di prove solide, sembra fondamentale condurre valutazioni comparative per posizionarla meglio in una strategia di oncology integrative (IO)”.
